This wonderful falls which is best described as Nigeria's Premier falls is located at kilometre 76 along Minna Suleja roads. From Suleja to the junction is about 45 kms while from the junction to the falls is about 2 kms.

The foam from the gushing waterfall forms a kind of snowy white mist above the river. The water gathered at the bottom of the fall turns to a river, it flows fast and disappears from sight, hidden by the vegetation. Just beside the mist on the floor, by the left, the about 40 kilometres high waterfall continues to gush out water in torrents. It cascades down in a rhythmic fashion. The force of the gushing water forms a white haze below, just like cloud.

Gazing steadily at the waterfall, one is giddy with the feeling that one would fall and become submerged in the white foam. This is Gurara Waterfall, one of the most exciting tourist spots in Nigeria.

The waterfall is located in the Gurara council area of Niger State. From Abuja, driving through Suleija, it is a little above an hour journey. The road that leads to the fall is off Lambata –Minna road. From the Minna-Abuja expressway, the waterfall is just about 10 minutes’ drive. There are no direct vehicles going to the fall from most of these nearby towns.

On disembarking from the commercial vehicle at the junction leading to the fall, one would have to walk for a few metres inward on the graded but untarred road. A little further, about 50 metres from the expressway, there is a point of entry barricaded with a stick. Each visitor is expected to pay N100 to be allowed through. At this barricade, there is a rickety car that conveys visitors from that point to the waterfall. The official there claim they are from the state government’s tourism board. On this visit, for a die-hard tourist like this reporter, the vehicle was just part of the adventure but it would be totally unsuitable to convey foreign tourists who may wish to visit the fall. Even for families with children, it might not be the best. It did not speak well of seriousness in the tourism business in the country.

Visitors should make their travel arrangements, at best, should visit the place with a vehicle that would take them to and from the waterfall.
